Paul Pogba has already told former Manchester United teammates that he will be back at Old Trafford, HITC Sport understands.

The dynamic French midfielder looks increasingly likely to become the most expensive player in footballing history with Manchester United ready to pay just over £100million to Juventus - smashing the previous record held by Real Madrid, when they paid Tottenham around £85million for Gareth Bale.

The deal will see Pogba return to United, who he left in 2012 when his contract expired to join Juventus - who only had to pay minor compensation for his signature.

Pogba, who also interested Real Madrid, has known about his future for a number of weeks and HITC Sport has learned that he told THREE former team-mates, some weeks ago, that he would be back in the red of United and he is more than happy to be returning.

HITC Sport also understands that Pogba will be on close to matching the salary of United's current leading earner - Wayne Rooney, who pockets £300,000-a-week.

And whilst Juventus were willing to offer the 23-year-old a huge pay increase to keep him in Turin, they could not live with United's financial package. Indeed, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema et al - even Real Madrid have told Pogba's camp they would struggle to match it unless they jettisoned one of their Galacticos, which was not in their plans for this summer and barring a last minute change of heart at the Bernabeu - they will not be putting forward an offer.

A source who has details of the deal has told HITC Sport: "United are flexing their muscles, some people scoff when they refer to themselves as the biggest club in the world, well this deal - when done - will show that they are very much back at the top table of world football."

New United boss has already sanctioned the signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer but Pogba was always the number one target he wanted the club's hierarchy to land.
