No deal for Petrov

Stiliyan Petrov - Aston Villa

Stiliyan Petrov will not be offered a playing contract at Aston Villa, according to Roberto Di Matteo's comments in the Daily Record.

Petrov has been training with Villa over pre-season, but he will not be kept on as a player for the competitive campaign.

The experienced Bulgarian is set to be offered a deal to be on Villa’s coaching team, however.

Di Matteo said: “ Stiliyan is an inspiration to all of us.

“I have spoken to him and explained my thoughts and offered him the chance to remain at the Club.

“Stiliyan is going to discuss this with his family before coming back to us.”

Carles Gil depature

Aston Villa's Carles Gil

According to the Daily Star, Carles Gil will leave Villa to join Deportivo La Coruna on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old caught the eye with his initial displays at Villa, but failed to break into the Midlands side’s starting line-up and has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements by Di Matteo.

And finally…

Get French Football claim that Liverpool will make a decision on whether to buy Jordan Amavi by the end of the week.

The Reds are interested in the full-back, but want a deal completed quickly if they are to bring him to Anfield.
