Andy Carroll has talked up the ability of West Ham’s squad after being impressed by the new arrivals, in an interview with whufc.com.

Slaven Bilic has added the likes of Gokhan Tore, Sofiane Feghouli and Havard Nordtveit to an already impressive bunch and Carroll has tipped the Hammers to build on the achievements of last season.

“We’ve got a fantastic team,” said the 27-year old. “We played really well last season and were unlucky not to finish higher and go further in the cups than we did.

“It was great to come into such a strong squad and hopefully we can move on from that and get even better.

“It’s always important to get new players in each season and freshen it up. Everyone has to fight for places again and I’m sure the lads are looking forward to it just as much as I am,” he added.

West Ham were one of the surprise packages in a season of surprises last term and were in with a shout of Champions League qualification for much of the campaign.

They tailed off towards the end of the season and ultimately finished seventh, but Bilic will be confident he can improve upon that after some shrewd moves in the transfer market.

Tore and Feghouli, in particular, provide quality and experience in wide areas and could form a deadly attacking trio alongside Dmitri Payet.

The main issue facing the Hammers however, is in front of goal, with Diafra Sakho seeking an exit – as reported by the Mirror – and Enner Valencia also linked with a move away, according to the Daily Star.

Andy Carroll is the only senior frontman who is sure to be at the Olympic Stadium come the start of the season but doubts remain over his ability to stay injury free for an extended period of time.

Carlos Bacca has been heavily linked, by the likes of the London Evening Standard, but it is unclear whether that deal will get over the line.
