According to the Birmingham Mail, Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt is not a priority target for Aston Villa.

Roberto di Matteo’s side have been linked with the Black Cats midfielder this week as they continue their preparations for next season.

It was believed that they were targeting Bridcutt as a potential replacement for Carlos Sanchez and Jordan Veretout, who have both been linked with moves away from Villa Park.

However, according to the Birmingham Mailthe midfielder is not a priority target at this moment in time. They report that Di Matteo currently has other targets ahead of the Sunderland midfielder on his wish list.

Instead, the newspaper believes that a return to Leeds United, where he impressed on loan last season, is more likely than a move to Villa Park at present.

There is every chance that Villa could change that stance should they not be able to secure any of their other targets though.

Di Matteo is looking to add players with Championship experience, while the Birmingham Mail believes he would also be keen to add fresh legs in centre midfield and Bridcutt would be an ideal to solution.
