Liverpool's England contingent report back for pre-season training soon.

England's Daniel Sturridge celebrates scoring their second goal

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp seems to be looking forward to the return of his English contingent as they were given extra time off because of their Euro 2016 commitments with the national side.

Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Nathaniel Clyne will all return for pre-season training in time for the tour to the United States, but they arrive on the back of England being humiliated by Iceland at the last-16 stage of the competition.

Klopp seemed impressed with the performance of one of his players in particular, telling the official Liverpool website: “Adam Lallana, especially, played really well in the European Championship. That was really good. Daniel Sturridge had a fantastic moment [against Wales], Nathaniel played really well in his game and Hendo was really good in his game [against Slovakia].

“OK, Milly was not too satisfied with his role but that’s how it is sometimes. He made no mistake in the tournament, so he can be confident and that’s how it is.

“But now international time is over and Liverpool time starts again.”

Lallana certainly seemed to impress as he played in all three of the group stage games. He combined well with both Henderson and Clyne in the first half against Slovakia, although Henderson's lack of match practice throughout the season beforehand seemed to catch up with him.

Milner's only appearance was as a late substitute in the opening game against Russia.

As for Sturridge, despite his winning goal against Wales he was on the periphery for much of game as he was played out of position. He may feel he has a point to prove.

One or two of the players could face some real competition getting into Klopp's starting XI at the start of the season. Milner is a versatile player but on paper it looks as if he will find it difficult to start games regularly if everybody is fit, while Lallana could face more competition following the signing of Sadio Mane.
