New owner Dr Tony Xia during the press conference
New Aston Villa owner Tony Xia had his purchase of the club approved earlier this summer, and has big ambitions.
The Chinese investor wants to bring Champions League football to Villa Park - although his immediate priority is to get the club out of the Championship.
He has also taken the unusual and brave step for a man in his position, of creating a twitter account to engage with fans.
Today he was involved with a noteworthy exchange with a Villa supporter, who questioned his credentials.
Evidently irritated by the suggestion, Xia had this simple response - don't believe what you may read in the media.
Tell your mate to read more books to get wisdom instead read too many nasty useless articles from nasty medias. https://t.co/R87g9rQKfI— Dr. Tony Xia (@Dr_TonyXia) July 20, 2016
Xia clearly felt the need to defend himself and re-affirm his credentials, but he will need to develop a thicker skin in the future.
There are big expectations at Villa, which he has helped create, and supporters will be sure to let him know if the club are falling behind their targets.
