Aston Villa fans have found reason to be excited after a report on Wednesday claimed that the club has lodged a solid offer for Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Villa are in need of reinforcements in attack after their struggles in front of goal last season, and Kodjia would seem to fit the bill.

The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international scored 20 times in 48 appearances for the Robins last season despite City only managing to finish in 18th place in the Championship.

According to a French report, Villa have launched an undisclosed bid for Kodjia but face competition from the likes of Stoke City, Sunderland, and Villarreal for the prolific marksman.

Kodjia scored more goals from open play than any other player in the Championship last term and would surely be a strong addition to Roberto Di Matteo's Villa side.

Currently, the Italian boss has only Rudy Gestede, Jordan Ayew, Libor Kozak, and Gabby Agbonlahor to choose from in attack.

Though Gestede boasted a superb goalscoring record in the second tier with Blackburn Rovers before his move to Villa Park 12 months ago, he managed just six strikes in the Premier League last term, while Ayew was the club's top scorer with seven.

Meanwhile, Agbonlahor and Kozak managed a single goal in 23 appearances between them last season, and Kodjia's addition would be a big boost for the club as they gear up for a promotion push.

Certainly Villa fans on Twitter seemed encouraged by the report, as they sung the praises of the Bristol City frontman.
