Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier has been quizzed over his plans for incomings and outgoings at the club.
The Frenchman was appointed as boss earlier this summer, and last night oversaw a 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Port Vale.
Speaking to BBC Radio Nottinghamshire in a video published on their Facebook page, Montanier said: "There is nothing to announce yet but I hope in the next week."
Asked specifically about links to former Argentine international, Montanier chose not to be drawn.
Italian outlet Tutto Mercato had touted the City Ground as a potential destination for the free agent.
Montanier said: "There are a lot of rumours, it's pre-season, I don't choose to comment on any rumours. For the moment we wait, it is too early to announce (anything)."
Montanier there did not dismiss the chances of doing a deal for the 31-year-old, but fans should clearly not get carried away.
The Frenchman added that he was reluctant to make decisions on which players should leave the club, insisting he needs time.
He said: "It is too early. I need to observe all the players from the squad."
