Matip limped off during the closing stages of Liverpool's pre-season win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
Liverpool defender Joel Matip's injury is not a serious one, the Liverpool Echo reports, after the centre-back limped off during the closing stages of the Reds' 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Sunday.
It will be a welcome relief to manager Jurgen Klopp who already has both Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho unavailable until the start of the new season through Achilles tendon injuries.
Matip appeared to suffer an ankle injury in the closing stages of the pre-season win but the Echo reports that a scan shows no serious damage and that he is just suffering from some bruising.
It is unclear whether he will be available for the next pre-season match when the Reds travel to Huddersfield Town tomorrow night, but he will be fit to participate in the club's tour of the United States.
Matip - who joined the Reds on a free transfer from Schalke this summer - seems to have developed an early understanding with Dejan Lovren in the pre-season games they have played together so far, and it looks increasingly likely that they will start the new Premier League season as the central defensive partnership.
It is clear that he offers the side some aerial presence that was lacking prior to his arrival and looks very comfortable on the ball as it is evident Klopp likes all of his players to be comfortable on the ball.
