Everton are likely to splash the cash this summer thanks to Farhad Moshiri's investment, and the Toffees are being heavily linked with a move for a Euro 2016 star.

With Gareth Barry now 35, finding a long-term solution in midfield appears to be a priority for manager Ronald Koeman, and Portugal star William Carvalho appears to be on his radar.

The Mirror reported on Monday that Everton are keen to land Sporting anchor man Carvalho, and the deal could be worth around £30m - huge money for the Toffees.

Carvalho, 24, has come up through the ranks with Sporting, and his impressive performances appear to have triggered major interest, especially after he played a key role in Portugal's shock Euro 2016 success.

A giant, powerful midfielder who protects the back four with great positioning, leadership and passing ability, Carvalho is destined to leave Sporting in the near future, and Goodison Park could be his destination if recent reports are to be believed.

It's claimed that manager Koeman now sees Carvalho as a sensible alternative to Zenit St. Petersburg star Axel Witsel, who is proving difficult to sign - and Everton fans have had their say on Twitter.

Fans were clearly excited by the rumours, suggesting that signing Carvalho would be a real show of ambition from the new Everton regime, and supporters consider him to be the ideal long-term successor to Barry in midfield.

Others suggested they would prefer Carvalho to aforementioned target Witsel, and simply want the club to pay the money for Carvalho and lure him to Goodison Park before another club swoop in and sign him.
