Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo is challenged by Dimitri Payet
Ronaldo sustained the injury in a tough tackle from Hammers hero Payet who was targeted for abuse online as a result.
Payet has since insisted there was no malice intended in the challenge - something any West Ham fan would verify - while Ronaldo has remained tight-lipped on the matter.

Ronaldo breaks his silence
That was until yesterday when the Portuguese spoke for the first time about the injury on his Instagram account.
And it appears he is not blaming Payet, instead taking a more positive stance ahead of the start of a new season.
"Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank all my fans," Ronaldo said on Instagram.
"I wanted to tell them that all is well and that I will come back much stronger. Thank you, long live Portugal!"
Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo reacts
Did Portugal triumph soften superstar's reaction?
It is not yet known how long the injury will keep Ronaldo out for, although respected Spanish outlet Marca claims he could be out until September.
Whether Ronaldo would have been quite so conciliatory had his Portugal side not gone on to beat Payet's France in his absence we will never know.
But any bad feeling towards Payet from Ronaldo's legion of fans around the world should dissapate after the star's upbeat social media post.
