According to Bild, Aston Villa are among those interested in signing former Bayern Munich hitman Ivica Olic.

The 36-year-old is without a club since leaving Hamburg this summer after netting just twice in 25 appearances for the German outfit.

Due to his availability, speculation has mounted that the Championship club could be interested in bringing him to Aston Villa, by virtue of Roberto Di Matteo's lack of firepower.

Considering they won just 17 points in the Premier League last season, Di Matteo badly needs a goalscorer and Olic, at one time in his glittering career, would have fit the bill.

But now in the twilight of his career, is the Croatia legend going to score the goals to lift Villa back into the top flight this season? Not according to a number of supporters.

There's only three weeks left to prepare for the start of the Championship season, with Aston Villa kicking off their campaign on August 7 with a visit to Sheffield Wednesday.

Time is ticking away and Di Matteo will be desperate to have the bulk of his summer business done before their trip to Hillsborough in a few weeks.
