Arsenal's Wellington Silva has transferred back to Fluminense, the club the Gunners bought him from, without ever making an appearance for Arsene Wenger's side, and the club's supporters were quick to give their thoughts on the player on Twitter.

The 23-year-old had been turning out for Bolton Wanderers in the Championship last season, but despite that expected to be the start of the skilful Brazilian's career in the UK, it was in fact his swansong.

Wellington initially agreed to move to London in 2009, for a fee of £3.5 million reported Goal, but visa complications made it difficult for the attacking midfielder to feature for Arsenal, and instead the player went out on a series of loans at Spanish clubs that would see him secure Spanish citizenship in 2015.

Last season was the Brazilian's first taste of professional football in England, as he agreed a season long loan to Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters had of course done wonders for Jack Wilshere early in his career, helping him get first team football under his belt before really making a mark with the Gunners.

The hope that Wellington would benefit in the same way disappeared as Bolton struggled all season, and ended up relegated down to League One. He managed to make 25 appearances, scoring twice, but fell out with Trotters manager Neil Lennon and also suffered a hamstring strain that restricted his momentum early in the season.

Below Arsenal fans gave their opinion on the attacking midfielder on Twitter, with plenty scratching their heads that he wasn't given a chance after so much difficulty in getting him a work permit:
