Tottenham are closing in on the signature of Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, with the attacker set to undergo a medical at the club, The Guardian report.

Nkoudou's arrival at a speculated price of £11 million would represent a good profit for Marseille, having signed the 21-year-old for just £1 million from Nantes a year earlier.

It also would have implications for Newcastle United, as it could speed up the exit of Florian Thauvin, who they sold to the Toon last summer.

Thauvin failed to settle in the Premier League and was even loaned back mid-season. The club's relegation only makes him remaining at the club more unlikely.

French website Foot-Sur-7 is one of a number of outlets in the country today to report Marseille maintain an interest in bringing him back permanently.

Their limited financial resources make this difficult, but are hopeful they can meet Newcastle's asking price of £10 million.

The sale of Nkoudou would help achieve this, bringing instant income which can be used to try and and re-sign  the 23-year-old.

Thauvin featured in a pre-season game for Newcastle at the weekend, and for now he is being re-ingratiated back into the squad, but if Marseille can stump up the cash, it is likely he will be heading for an exit - and Newcastle will have Tottenham to thank for a financial boost of their own.
