According to reports from the Northern Echo, Sheffield Wednesday have entered the race to secure the services of Blackburn Rovers star Grant Hanley.

It is no secret that Newcastle United want to sign Blackburn Rovers skipper Grant Hanley this summer but the Magpies have had two bids of around £3.5 million and £4.5 million rejected.

Recently, Newcastle returned with a bid of around £5.5 million for Hanley but much to their dismay, Blackburn have now decided to raise the asking price for the defender to a sizeable £8 million (Daily Mail).

Newcastle’s protracted negotiations for Hanley has given other teams a window of opportunity to join the race and Norwich City were also believed to have placed a bid for the 24-year-old.

Now in a fresh update to the story, the Northern Echo have gone on to claim that even Sheffield Wednesday are very keen on signing Hanley and will be making a bid in the coming days.

Wednesday could potentially lose central defender Tom Lees (Daily Mirror) this summer as the 25-year-old is currently attracting the interest from Premier League outfit Burnley and manager Carlos Carvalhal is said to have identified Hanley as the ideal figure to strengthen the backline this summer.
