The French club are not willing to sign off the deal just yet, and are reportedly interested in taking Clinton Njie in return.

Tottenham's £10.8 million move for Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou may have stuttered a little, according to Sky Sports reports, with the French giants reluctant to sanction the transfer until they have a replacement lined up.

And though Spurs have a player L'OM are interested in in former Lyon star Clinton Njie, the report also states that the Cameroon international is eager to stay in London and fight for his place after an injury ravaged first season at White Hart Lane.

Rapid young French winger Nkoudou has been a left field recruitment target for Spurs, seemingly coming from nowhere to appear at the top of Mauricio Pochettino's wish list this summer.

Spurs are set to return to the Champions League for the first time in five years, and the club are eager to strengthen several positions in the squad that they have identified as areas of weakness.

Having brought in Victor Wanyama in defensive midfield and Vincent Janssen up top, the next on the list appears to have been a versatile attacking midfielder, and Nkoudou seems to have been the man the club have picked.

But despite earlier Sky reports that the 21-year-old was heading to North London for a medical, with the deal well on its way to being wrapped up, it seems Marseille's wish for a replacement could prove an obstacle to a quick piece of business.

Spurs will have to convince Njie that a loan return to Marseille is in his best interests, possibly making that move a part of the Nkoudou deal itself.

Only then may the deal progress and the Premier League side get the player they want in to join up with preseason training sooner rather than later.
