Estonia's Ragnar Klavan
According to The Mirror, Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan will have a medical with Liverpool on Tuesday ahead of completing his transfer to Anfield.
The Reds may have brought in one centre back already this summer having landed Joel Matip on a pre-contract agreement from Schalke, but manager Jurgen Klopp appears to be keen on more depth at the back.
With Mamadou Sakho mired in a doping row and Martin Skrtel sold to Fenerbahce, Klopp unsurprisingly wants competition for Matip and Dejan Lovren, with a new signing seemingly on the verge of arriving at Anfield.
The Mirror report that Augsburg star Ragnar Klavan is set to join Liverpool in a £4m deal, and will arrive on Merseyside on Tuesday in order to undergo a medical with the club.
Klavan, 30, bounced around with clubs like Elva, Tulevik and Flora in his native Estonia, before heading to Valerenga, Heracles Almelo and AZ Alkmaar, without ever really settling down at one club.
Since joining Augsburg in 2012 though, the captain of the Estonian national team has become one of the top defenders in German football, racking up almost 150 appearances for Augsburg in the process.
No strange to former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp, Klavan even impressed against Liverpool in the Europa League this past season, and is now heading to Anfield with a medical set to be completed on Tuesday.
A natural left-footer, Klavan will offer cover behind Sakho as the left-sided centre back, meaning Matip and Lovren could battle it out as Klopp's right-sided centre back, offering real balance as well as experience and leadership to the Liverpool back four.
Do you think Klavan will be a good signing for Liverpool?
