Karius was almost the master of his own downfall in a friendly win over Wigan.
With the scoreline goalless, the summer signing from Mainz risked major embarrassment by failing to control Joel Matip's backpass but scrambled to save an effort from an onrushing forward, meaning that he has yet to concede a goal during his stint in a Liverpool shirt so far.
Still, it was a mistake he owned up to on Twitter later on:
Still, at least the £4.7 million signing is aware of his errors when he makes one, and if there was ever a time to get errors out of your system then it is during pre-season.
Otherwise the German can be relatively happy with how things are going so far as he has yet to pick the ball out of his own net since arriving on Merseyside, although he has not been called into action all that much.
That is likely to change in the coming weeks when the Reds step up their pre-season schedule when they go on a tour of the United States, where they will face Chelsea, Roma and AC Milan. The opposition is certainly a step up from the calibre of sides they have played so far.
It will be interesting to see whether Karius will have done enough during the pre-season campaign to start the opening game of the season against Arsenal ahead of Simon Mignolet, and whether that number one sport will be his for the duration of the upcoming campaign.
