Carlos Sanchez's move to Marseille from Aston Villa is imminent, the Birmingham Mail have reported (cited by La Provence).

The 30-year-old joined Aston Villa from Elche in 2014 but the Villans' relegation to the Championship last season might well offset his exit.

The Birmingham Mail reported earlier this week that Marseille were going to bid for the Colombian midfielder, and the same outlet now claims that a switch to the Velodrome is imminent.

The report goes on to suggest that both clubs have agreed a £1.6 million deal for Sanchez, whose contract with Aston Villa expires in 2018.

It does not appear to be a very substantial fee considering how long he has left on his contract at Villa Park.

But if he does not want to be there then manager Roberto Di Matteo is better off shipping him out and replacing him with a player dedicated to the cause.

Aston Villa, who earned 17 points in the Premier League last season en route to their abject relegation, need committed players as they battle to earn a swift return to the top flight this season.
