Arsenal are set to secure the signing of highly-rated Bolton defender Rob Holding, according to The Sun.

The 20-year old is one of the Championship’s most promising young talents and enjoyed an impressive season with the Trotters last term, making 30 appearances in all competitions.

Arsene Wenger is keen to add to add another long-term option to his central defensive group and Holding certainly fits the bill.

Laurent Koscielny has been excellent for the Gunners in recent seasons but they are yet to find his ideal partner. Doubts remain over Gabriel and Per Mertesacker and Holding might fancy himself to make a first-team breakthrough sooner rather than later.

The Sun report that Arsenal will lodge a bid of £2.5 million next week in order to fend off interest from rival suitors and they look firmly on course to land their man.

Holding has featured for England’s Under-21 team and was named as Bolton’s Player of the Year last season, suggesting that the Gunners might be about to land a real prospect.

It’s been quiet on the transfer front for Arsenal this summer, with Granit Xhaka the sole arrival back in May, but it appears Wenger is ready secure signing number two.
