The Reds triumphed through goals from Danny Ings and talented young striker Ben Woodburn, who netted for the second game in succession.

Alexander Arnold was handed his debut in a friendly a year ago at just 16 by Brendan Rodgers, and he was involved once again yesterday.

Speaking about his makeshift defence, Klopp said: "The second half was more than OK because the young boys obviously didn’t think too much about tired legs and the intensity of training.

"They had good organisation, Tiago [Ilori] and Joel [Matip] plus Lucas [Leiva] together with young Trent Alexander-Arnold did really well."

The 17-year-old is a player to watch for the future, although it would be a surprise if he features this upcoming season.

The teenager is an England youth international who has obviously caught Klopp's eye, and these brief tastes of first team action should only spur him on to want to earn more chances in competitive scenarios.

As well as playing in defence at full-back, the gangly youngster can also play in central midfield, and captained the under-18s last season.
