Leeds United took on Shamrock Rovers in a pre-season friendly today and came out of the game with a comfortable 3-0 triumph.

The result was a fair one give the domination of the side and Leeds fans will be pleased to see their team continuing to improve.

It was also a good performance for one of their new signings, as Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson found the back of the net twice – either side of a Chris Wood brace.

The Swedish striker has now spoken to the press in his homeland about the result and netting twice on his first start for the club – expressing how important it is to show early on that he is a goalscorer:

He told Expressen:

“I feel that it is important. It was the same in Kalmar when I began to score there, too, to win my teammates respect and it will be easier to get into the gang.

“It is very much about what you do on the pitch, that's why I was recruited here. It's nice to be able to show immediately that I'm a scorer.”

He went on to make it clear that he hopes to cement himself a place in the Leeds first-team for the rest of the season if he does impress in pre-season:

“That's what I'm aiming for 100 percent. Of course it helps if you make two goals in a match and contributes directly. It is of course tough competition, but that is what I am aiming for.”

So far the Leeds fans are certainly enjoying seeing Antonsson in action.

Most see that he has a knack for finding the back of the net and if he can continue that form then he will surely be a regular first-team member for the Leeds first-team this campaign.
