The defender joined the Magpies from Arsenal earlier this month.
Hayden joined the Magpies from Arsenal on a permanent deal last week, and made his debut for his new club as a half-time substitute in the 6-0 win over Irish side Bohemians.
As the scorelines would suggest, it was a relatively comfortable first taste of action for the Tyneside club for Hayden as the Irish side offered minimal threat to the Newcastle defence.
However, Hayden was delighted to get his first minutes under his belt, and made a point of thanking the Magpies supporters who turned out to support the side.
He wrote: "Good to get my first run out in a Newcastle shirt yesterday! Thanks for the support".
Though he left Arsenal having made just two League Cup appearances, Hayden does have experience of playing regularly in the Championship, having appeared 24 times in all competitions in a loan spell at Hull City last season.
The defender, who has also been known to play in midfield, will be hoping to break up the partnership of Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles in the Championship this season and nail down a regular place under Benitez.
