Rangers defeated Motherwell at Fir Park yesterday to get their competitive season off to a good start.

The Glasgow side got their Betfred Cup campaign off to a good start with a 2-0 win – courtesy of goals from last season’s standout performers.

James Tavernier scored the opening goal before Martyn Waghorn, who set up the first, netted a 90th minute settler.

It was a good performance from Mark Warburton’s men and the performance of the pair received Twitter congratulations from one player who left Ibrox this summer.

Nicky Clark left Rangers on a free transfer this summer, but is clearly still following events at Ibrox.

He sent this message:

Clark, who joined Rangers after banging in the goals for Queen of the South in 2013, never managed to find the net regularly in Glasgow and played just 15 times for the club last season.

This summer, out of contract, he headed south of the border and joined Bury on a two-year deal.

Rangers have done plenty of recruitment since his departure, and are clearly not missing Clark at the moment.
