Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has predicted in The Daily Record that Celtic will progress to the Champions League qualifying third round.

The Scottish Premiership champions suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Lincoln Red Imps FC in the first leg of the Champions League qualifying second-round tie away from home at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar on Tuesday evening.

The Bhoys were expected to win the game comfortably, but Lee Casciaro’s goal three minutes into the second half proved to be the difference between the two teams.

The second leg of the tie will be held at Celtic Park in Glasgow on Wednesday evening.

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson believes that Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic side will win the match and book their place in the Champions League third round qualifying.

“There is no doubt in my mind Celtic will win that match,” Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record. “But the manager will have learned his most important lessons in the first leg.”

Celtic have a much better team that Red Imps, and fans should be optimistic about the Hoops’ chances of progressing from the tie.

However, the Glasgow giants cannot be complacent and must not concede an early goal in the second leg at Celtic Park in Glasgow.
