A report suggests Aston Villa's Jordan Veretout could be heading to Marseille
French news outlet L'Equipe is reporting that Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is the subject of strong interest from Ligue 1 side Marseille.
The 23-year-old French midfielder joined Villa for a reported fee of £8.3 million from Nantes last summer, but he failed to have a positive impact on his side's horrendous campaign which culminated in relegation to the Championship.
Veretout has failed to impress during his time at Villa
L'Equipe go on to report that Villa and Marseille officials met on Saturday to discuss terms of the deal, with the French side keen on a season-long loan move for Veretout.
The Frenchman made just 25 Premier League appearances for the Villains last term and managed only five assists with with a return of no goals.
He was one of the many players singled out by Villa fans for his perceived lack of fighting spirit and passion, along with his poor performances.
A move to Ligue 1 could be beneficial for Veretout
There is yet to be a statement from Villa regarding the future of Veretout, but it would be no surprise at all if he left the club on either a temporary or permanent deal. Maybe a loan move would be beneficial for the player, and help him regain his form in more familiar surroundings.
