According to The Sun (print edition, page 57, July 15, 2016), Championship club Wednesday have offered Mulgrew a deal worth £1 million a year.
Talks over a new contract are going on, though, with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers recently telling The Telegraph that he would like to keep Mulgrew in his team for the 2016-17 campaign.
It now seems that Wednesday have moved to take advantage of the situation and have (reportedly) offered the versatile footballer a lucrative contract.
Mulgrew, who is 30 years of age, can play as a centre-back, left-back and central midfielder.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aberdeen man has suffered injury problems during his time at Celtic, but he is now fully fit and raring to go.
Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on speculation linking the club with a move for Mulgrew this summer.
Below are some of the best comments:
Charlie Mulgrew would be a 50/50 signing for me. Not a great injury record, but can play in a lot of positions. Worth the gamble? #swfc— Billy Seamus Fenelon (@BillyFensterFen) July 15, 2016
Charlie Mulgrew ticks boxes, experienced, 6"3 so would certainly add the height we lack, knows the division, used to big crowds, cheap #swfc— Nick Smith (@InningsAFC) July 15, 2016
