According to the Mirror (live transfer thread, July 16th 2016 at 21:22), Middlesbrough are waiting on news from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho over their bid to sign winger Adnan Januzaj.
The report claims that Boro boss Aitor Karanka is hoping for a favour from his former colleague, but he is still waiting on an answer following the arrival of fellow new faces at Old Trafford.
Januzaj rose to prominence at United as he notched an impressive double in his first league start in a 2-1 win at Sunderland, immediately drawing comparisons with former player Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, since then his career at Old Trafford has stagnated somewhat, resulting in an unsuccessful loan spell with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund where he managed just three starts in six months.
The Belgium international is in need of a fresh start, yet at United competition for places is high and boss Jose Mourinho may wish to add even more players to his squad before the season starts.
Boro have been one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market, with deals in the pipeline ready to take their summer tally to an impressive nine new additions as they prepare for top-flight football.
Having said that, Karanka’s men are arguably still light in wide areas and a move for Januzaj - not stated whether on loan or permanent - could be ideal for all parties involved.
The 21-year-old has top level experience and is need of regular first-team action at a club which will see him as a leading player, and Boro will have plans for a long and successful stay in the Premier League.
