The report claims that Bordeaux are looking at a replacement for Diego Rolan, who could be heading to the UK, and Cheick Diabate – who joined Turkish side Omanlispor on a free transfer this summer.

Ayew is seen as the perfect replacement after his agent reportedly got in contact with the club for either of the strikers and has experience of playing in the French league after stints with Lorient and Marseille.

The Ghanaian international was one of the few players to come out of the terrible Aston Villa campaign of 2015-16 with any sort of credit. However, he would not have been happy with his return of goals – netting just seven goals in 36 games.

Villa are believed to want to keep the player, but would clearly benefit from selling the player to clear the wage bill and create funds for player recruitment.
