The 22-year-old failed to score on his Spurs bow.

Vincent Janssen made his first appearance for Spurs today as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Fulham, as reported on the club’s official website.

The Dutchman arrived last week on a four-year deal from AZ Alkmaar and has spent the past few days getting to grips with Mauricio Pochettino’s notoriously demanding pre-season schedule.

He was unable to find the net today however - with Championship side Fulham grabbing the win at Hotspur Way courtesy of a late goal from Luca de la Torre - but came close in the dying moments when his near-post flick on was turned over the bar by Jesse Joronen.

The Lilywhites fielded a team comprised of a mix of senior and squad development players but were a long way from full strength, with the bulk of the first XI still to return to training following their international exploits over the summer.
