Former player Peter Lovenkrands took to social networking site Twitter in order to share his delight at Rangers’ impressive 2-0 win at Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup first round group stage.

The Gers headed into their match with Well knowing it would be their toughest of the group, yet they ultimately brushed their fellow top-flight opponents aside with a comfortable win.

James Tavernier struck early in the second half to give the Ibrox side a deserved lead, and forward Martyn Waghorn made sure of the victory by superbly tuckung away the second in injury time.

Mark Warburton’s men are now favourites to advance to the next stage, and former player Lovenkrands shared his delight by posting on Twitter immediately after both goals.

Rangers have also been paired alongside Annan Athletic, East Stirlingshire and Stranraer in the League Cup group stage, yet Motherwell is without doubt their toughest opponents in the group.

The home side struggled to get going as Rangers dominated possession with some crisp passing moves, and in the end some could argue the away side were unlucky not to have scored more.

Tavernier and Waghorn will no doubt receive the plaudits for their goals, but it was a real team effort from Rangers and the result tands the Glasgow side in good stead for further challenges to come.
