Niko Kranjcar - Queens Park Rangers on the bench

Rangers starting line-up: Foderingham; Tavernier, Wilson, Kiernan, Wallace; Halliday, Holt, Forrester; Waghorn, Miller, McKay.

Rangers substitutes: Gilks, Kranjcar, Hodson, Hill, Windass, Thompson, O’Halloran

The 2016/17 campaign gets underway for Rangers this afternoon as they take on Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup at Fir Park.

The Gers will be hoping for a strong start to the league season having won promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, but it's League Cup action today, with Motherwell their first opponents of the season.

Manager Mark Warburton has stuck with the players that won him promotion, as a familiar back five of Wes Foderingham, James Tavernier, Danny Wilson, Rob Kiernan and Lee Wallace start once again.

Jason Holt and Harry Forrester both start in midfield, whilst Kenny Miller, Martyn Waghorn and Barrie McKay will all feature in a dangerous front three.

That means that most of Warburton's new signings are on the bench, with goalkeeper Matt Gilks joined by Lee Hodson, Clint Hill, Josh Windass and playmaker Niko Kranjcar.

The only new signings to miss out are Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks and Joey Barton, with Jordan Thompson and Michael O'Halloran taking the final two spots on the bench this afternoon.

Today's game will give Rangers a taste of what is to come in the top flight this coming season, and a win would certainly give the fans a major boost.
