Newcastle United got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.
Benitez was appointed as the Newcastle boss for the 2016-17 campaign in late May.
Not many expected the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss to remain in charge of the Magpies’ first team following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Dummett was on international duty with Wales at the time when Benitez was officially announced as the Newcastle boss.
The 24-year-old defender has revealed what his Wales international teammates thought of the appointment at the time. The Newcastle man has also underlined the passion of the club’s fans.
“Everybody is just delighted,” Dummett told The Chronicle. “I was away with Wales when I got the news after overhearing some of the Welsh lads talking about how they couldn’t believe he was staying.
“It just shows how much of a big club this is and the ambition they have shown to take the club forward.”
“When the manager came in we improved a lot and the fans seen that,” added the Wales international defender. “The way the fans backed us when the manager came in and the way they sang for him on the last day of the season was amazing.”
Newcastle have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far. The Magpies have signed Matz Sels from Gent, Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace, Matt Ritchie from Bournemouth, Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid and Isaac Hayden from Arsenal.
The Magpies will start the 2016-17 Championship campaign as favourites to win the title.
