Middlesbrough supporters have taken to social networking site Twitter in order to share their delight regarding the club’s confirmation of new right-back signing Antonio Barragan.

The club’s official website has confirmed the arrival of the 29-year-old right-back from La Liga side Valencia, while a report in the Mirror suggests he could be joined by Alvaro Negredo on loan.

Since Aitor Karanka’s arrival on Teesside, Boro have used La Liga as an ideal option for new signing, with players such as Christian Stuani and Kike both arriving from Spain over the past two years.

Now that the club are back in the top-flight, a higher claibre of player has become available and that is evident with the club’s impressive transfer business so far this summer.

Barragan is an experienced full-back who has displayed incredible consistency during his five-year spell with Valencia, making 140 appearances for the club during his time at the Mestalla Stadium.

He will provide Aitor Karanka’s side competition in the right-back slot after signing a three-year deal.

Barragan does have some experience of English football following a brief spell at Liverpool earlier in his career, though found options limited at Merseyside due to heavy competition for places.
