Manchester City fans mock Liverpool supporters on Twitter after Jordon Ibe sale

Liverpool have sold Jordon Ibe to Bournemouth, just a year after backing him to succeed Raheem Sterling.

Liverpool have sold Jordon Ibe to Bournemouth, after a disappointing season for the 20-year-old at Anfield.

The under-21 international was backed to have a big campaign a year ago, especially after Raheem Sterling was sold to Manchester City for £49 million.

Ibe was seen as next man up, and certainly had the chances to impress, featuring in 35 games in all competitions for the Reds last season, scoring three goals.

Ahead of the campaign he had been backed to eclipse Sterling and consign him to being a forgotten figure.

Former Liverpool hero John Aldridge told TalkSPORT last summer: “Liverpool have a ready-made replacement for Raheem Sterling in Jordon Ibe.

“He’s a terrific player and has got so much potential. He’s got as much, if not more potential, than Raheem had at that age. He’s a big strong lad, very direct and a better finisher than Raheem.”

These claims represented what some Liverpool fans had been saying on social media, backing Ibe to go on and seize Sterling's spot.

Ibe was unable to make the most of his opportunities, and his sale just 12 months after being tipped for stardom, has certainly amused Manchester City fans, who with all the praise for Ibe last summer, might have wondered why they simply didn't go and buy him instead.
