Southampton are kicking off their pre-season plans in the US capital today, taking on the DC United Under 23 side, with kick-off set for 4pm GMT.

The match is set to be new boss Claude Puel's first since taking over as manager last month, so naturally Saints fans will be particularly interested in how the Frenchman has the side lined up and what kind of tactics he may have instilled in his brief time in charge.

Of further interest for supporters is the news that Nathan Redmond, the big money signing from Norwich, is making his debut in the match, starting the game. Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a substitute, and may also feature after completing his move from Bayern Munich recently.

With several players yet to return to training following their international exploits, the Southampton academy get another chance to demonstrate their strength, with the bench boasting several youngsters. Highly rated 21-year-old defender Jordan Turnbull will be eager to impress as he starts alongside Virgil van Dijk.
