Wolverhampton Wanderers are planning a £1.5 million bid for Blackburn Rovers defender Shane Duffy, the Sun reports (Thursday edition, page 57).

The tabloid does however contradict itself somewhat, stating: "the offer has been turned down so far" - which suggests a previous bid was made.

Wolves' interest in Duffy, whose contract expires next summer, was initially reported in the Daily Mail this week, while Celtic were previously listed as suitors by the same source.

However, according to the Sun, Rovers plan to keep the Republic of Ireland international and offer him a new deal.

A report in the Telegraph this week claimed that Wolves' proposed £40 million takeover is nearing completion in time for next month's Championship opener against Rotherham.

However, it stated that a delay in the deal has already caused Kenny Jackett's side to miss out on a number of targets, listing Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic), Ashley Fletcher (West Ham United) and Jake Bidwell (Queens Park Rangers) .
