Leeds have been linked to a new defender, but fans may not be impressed...

Italian website Tuttomercatoweb claims Leeds United want to sign Italian veteran Valerio Di Cesare on a season long loan deal.

Di Cesare is 33-years-old and currently plays for Serie B club Bari, but began his career at Chelsea.

He did not play a single game for the Blues, leaving in 2004. He has since gone onto make more than 200 appearances in Italian football.

The most successful of these spells came with Torino when he helped them win promotion from Serie B in 2009/10, and he played briefly in Serie A before being sold to Brescia.

While always interesting to see Leeds linked to a new name, this is not a deal which should excite Leeds fans.

He has no experience of playing competitively in England, he is on the wrong side of 30, and a loan move for the centre-back would imply they have a limited budget - despite selling Lewis Cook for a substantial figure.

Leeds had been interested in signing centre-back Joel Ekstrand on a free transfer, but this deal fell through over concerns about the former Watford player's fitness.

Who would you like to see Leeds sign instead?
