According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Everton have been told that they will have to pay £50 million for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Toffees believe Koulibaly would be an excellent addition to their squad, but they see him as a replacement for John Stones.
Although Ronald Koeman is looking to add a centre-back to Everton’s squad this summer, Koulibaly has been deemed too expensive to bring in, unless Stones leave.
Everton now want £50 million if they are to sell Stones, so they can sign Koulibaly as his direct replacement.
Stones has reportedly told Everton he would like to move to Manchester City, but Koeman’s side are in no mood to let him go.
The Toffees want to keep the England international, unless a huge bid comes in for the 21-year-old.
Stones struggled at Everton last season, but he is still regarded as one of the best prospects in the Premier League.
Everton have made just one signing so far this summer, with Maarten Stekelenburg joining from Fulham.
