Arsenal could be without Alexis Sanchez for the start of the Premier League season, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

They report that the Chilean suffered an ankle injury while on international duty during the Copa America, meaning that Arsenal could be short of forwards for their opening game against Liverpool on the August 14th.

Several players made it to the latter stages of Euro 2016 meaning they are not expected to report to pre-season training until a week or two before the season gets underway.

Olivier Giroud was part of the France side that reached the final while Danny Welbeck is sidelined through a knee injury until 2017 - meaning that Theo Walcott could be the man to lead the line for the Gunners on the opening day.

They also suggest that Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey could miss the opening day of the season because of their run to the semi-finals with Germany and Wales respectively.

Arsenal have been on the lookout for a new striker for much of the summer after actively pursuing Jamie Vardy from Leicester City, but were unsuccessful - so one wonders if manager Arsene Wenger is still in the market for a forward, and whether they will be the person to line up for them on the opening day of the campaign if a deal gets done in time.

Certainly it is a headache for the Arsenal boss in the final third ahead of the new season getting underway and it could be an interesting line-up on the opening day.
