Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez wants the feel-good factor to continue
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez claims he is fully aware of the feel-good factor surrounding the club at present, but insists it is the players' responsibility to ensure that continues, as reported by the Chronicle.
Despite the Magpies' relegation to the Championship last term, there is a buzz of excitement surrounding St James' Park, helped in part by a string of impressive signings from Rafa, and the Newcastle boss put the pressure firmly on his players' shoulders when discussing the good vibes at the club:
Benitez was an instant hit at St James' Park
"We want to give the fans the message that everything is good. The reaction has been great, it’s been perfect. We are the ones that have to make it stay that way."
The North East outfit are currently in Dublin as their preparations continue for the start of the upcoming season, and the Chronicle reported how Benitez highlighted the importance of their trip to Ireland:
“To come here and keep everybody all together for the whole week creates a better atmosphere and team spirit."
The Newcastle boss has already made numerous smart acquisitions
Newcastle will certainly have to be very much together come the start of the new season, and they must prepare themselves for the 46-game slog in what is one of the most competitive divisions in the world.
They have made a great start in their quest to achieve promotion by signing players that are well accustomed to the rigours of England's second tier, such as Matt Ritchie and Isaac Hayden.
Newcastle kick-off their season on August 5th with a trip to London to face Fulham.
