John Aldridge has told Liverpool’s official website that he expects Danny Ings to play a major role for the Reds next season.

Ings originally joined Liverpool last summer after his contract with Burnley came to an end.

He had initially impressed under Brendan Rodgers, but a cruciate ligament injury in Jurgen Klopp’s first training session ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

He has battled back to fitness since then, so much so that he returned ahead of schedule to feature against West Brom at the end of last season.

He bagged the only goal of the game in the pre-season win over Tranmere recently, and Aldridge has backed him to play big role in the upcoming campaign.

"We've all got a good feeling about the lad - that given a bit of luck he could have a really good season for Liverpool,” he told liverpoolfc.com.

"It was a shame the injury came when he'd just got into the team. But sometimes that makes you harder mentally and I hope it has for the lad, because I think he could have a big say in our season.”

It will certainly be interesting to see what role that Ings has to play at Liverpool next season.

Both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi have impressed under Jurgen Klopp during his time at Anfield and arguably his first choice at present.

Ings energetic style could match perfectly with the German’s style though and it would not be surprising to see him as a starter next season.
