One of the key players in the good form of Sheffield Wednesday toward the end of last season was was loanee Alex Lopez.

The Spaniard, who was on loan at the club from Celta Vigo, played 27 times for the club and had an excellent end to the season – winning the club’s April Player of the Month award.

His loan deal ended and he returned to Celta, making it clear in an interview with Goal that he intended to break into the first-team in Vigo.

But local paper Atlantico in Vigo have confirmed that Lopez he is now free to leave the club. They carry quotes from his manager Eduardo Berizzo which state that Lopez's position in the team 'is covered’.

So should Leeds United take advantage and bring him back to Yorkshire?

Leeds need a new central midfielder after the departure of Lewis Cook to Bournemouth and Lopez proved last term that he has what it takes in the Championship during Sheffield Wednesday’s good campaign.

Not only that, but he would fit the mould of the type of midfield player that new Leeds boss Garry Monk would like at the club. He is a brilliant passer of the ball and forward thinking – but is also happy to get stuck in when necessary.

There is no official interest currently from Leeds United but it is certainly an option they would do well to consider ahead of next season.
