Reports had suggested that Newcastle wanted the Liverpool winger in exchange for Wijnaldum.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United were not considering asking for Jordon Ibe as part of any deal to take Georginio Wijnaldum to Liverpool.

HITC Sport exclusively revealed last week that the Reds were set to make a move for the Dutchman after contact had been made over a transfer.

It was then reported by the Mirror that the Magpies wanted a cash sum, plus Jordon Ibe, if any deal were to go ahead.

According to the Chronicle however, Newcastle were never interested in negotiating any such move. Rafa Benitez is indeed an admirer of Ibe but they did not enter negotiations for his services.

They hope to keep Wijnaldum next season and as such no negotiations over a cash plus player deal were put forward to Liverpool.

Instead the player is now heading to Bournemouth, who have agreed terms with the player after making a £15 million offer for his services.

It remains to be seen whether Wijnaldum will remain at St James Park this summer. There is clearly firm interest in his services, but the Magpies do not appear to be keen on selling him at any point.
