According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Newcastle United owner wants to keep both Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum at St. James’ Park this summer.

Newcastle have put big price tags on the midfield pair, but interest in them both in rising.

Sissoko has suggested that he would be willing to leave Newcastle, while Wijnaldum was arguably the Magpies top performer last term.

It was expected that they both would leave following Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship.

However, Ashley is determined to keep the bulk of Newcastle’s team together - and he wants both Sissoko and Wijnaldum to stay on Tyneside.

Ashley is not interested in taking money for the pair, as he would rather give Newcastle the best possible chance of being promoted.

However, the Shields Gazette’s report says that the ultimate decision over both Sissoko and Wijnaldum will lie with manager Rafael Benitez.

The Spanish boss was told he would have full control over transfers - and, despite his own wishes, Ashley intends to stick to his promise and leave the final decision over all Newcastle’s players’ futures in Benitez’s hands.
