Brendan Rodgers has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 13th July, that he has been very impressed by the performances of Kieran Tierney since taking over at Celtic.
Rodgers admits that he did not know too much about Tierney, before he took charge at Parkhead.
However, the Northern Irish boss has taken no time at all to be impressed by the 19-year-old’s talents.
“They have an outstanding academy,” Rodgers said. “I hadn’t seen a lot of Kieran Tierney, but I’d heard a little bit about him. But he’s a wonderful young footballer. He’s still got improvements to make, but he’s a product of the academy.”
Rodgers has already acted quickly to secure Tierney’s future, and the youngster has signed a new five-year deal at Parkhead.
Tierney has been linked with Premier League sides such as Arsenal and Southampton already, but he now looks set to stick with Celtic.
Tierney enjoyed his breakthrough season last term, when he was one of the Bhoys’ most consistent performers.
The full-back earned Celtic’s Young Player of the Season award last year, after becoming a permanent starter under Ronny Deila.
Tierney is also expected to play a key role under Rodgers, as Celtic aim to win their sixth successive Scottish Premiership title.
