Ashley Fletcher has left Manchester United to sign with West Ham.

Ashley Fletcher's switch to West Ham United is complete, after the club confirmed the move via their official website

The England under-20 striker was a free agent after his Manchester United contract ran down, and he rejected the chance to stay at Old Trafford.

Despite this, Fletcher has no hard feelings towards United, reaching out via social media to thank their supporters, along with all connected with Barnsley, where he spent last season on loan.

Fletcher's performance for Barnsley included a goal in the League One play-off final which led to their promotion, and he has been a highly coveted player among Championship clubs this summer.

West Ham's move for him shows that they believe he is capable of playing at the very top level, also signalled by the fact Manchester United wanted to retain him.

Fletcher's decision is a shrewd choice because the path at Manchester United appears blocked, and new Jose Mourinho is not known for developing young talent despite his arguments to the contrary.

Time will tell if he made the right decision, and he will know that he faces a big couple of years ahead of him if he is to make the desired impact at West Ham.
