West Ham United have been linked with the Swansea City striker.
The Irons are reportedly in the market for some extra firepower this summer, with Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho - who is expected to leave - representing Slaven Bilic's only options up front at the moment.
For weeks, West Ham fans have been teased with some pretty big names, such as Alexandre Lacazette, Carlos Bacca and, more recently, even Gonzalo Higuain.
Consequently, Hammers supporters were not best pleased over their reported interest in the Swansea forward, who has netted 13 times in 64 Premier League appearances.
His goal return has not been fantastic since arriving in English football on a Bosman from Lyon two years ago, and some sections of the fanbase would not touch him it seems.
@mattspiro Interesting that players now think of us as one of those type clubs!— Jane Susan Boardman (@madcatjane) July 12, 2016
@GubbyVat All it said was Gomis didnt want to join West Ham because he wanted game time, not a rejection. We havent bid for him anyway.— King Kou (@Kxuyate) July 11, 2016
West Ham have approached Swansea to speak to Bafetimbi Gomis. Kill me now.— West Ham Forum (@WestHam_Forum) July 11, 2016
@SwoopTransfer that's like going to get a pizza and coming back with salad.— Andrew Martin (@Andrewm1396) July 11, 2016
West Ham will end up with Gomis after all the strikers they've bid for ffs https://t.co/9VUmKBRvIt— Luke (@LukeLessUnited) July 11, 2016
They definitely need a new striker. Carroll and Sakho have their uses, but are they the ones to lift West Ham's profile even further next season? It is unlikely.
Bilic seems intent on building something special in East London, with Dimitri Payet a handy tool to have in such a project, but they need a talisman and nobody at the club now fits the bill.
