Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, July 11) that Leonardo Bonucci could help John Stones develop into a better defender at Manchester City.
It has been reported that City are willing to pay £43 million as transfer fee in order to secure the services of the 29-year-old Italy international.
According to The Guardian, Pep Guardiola’s side are interested in signing 22-year-old Everton defender Stones, who can play as a centre-back or as a right-back.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes that playing alongside Bonucci at City would help Stones develop into a better defender.
“If Manchester City do get Stones and they have been linked with Bonucci as well, them two at the back, I mean, you know, Bonucci would help Stones a lot because he is a good defender,” said Parlour on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, July 11).
“He is not great on the ball, but he knows how to defend, a little bit like Chellini. They know how to defend, they know how to shut games down, they know how to just get over the line, if you like.”
Bonucci scored three goals and created 15 chances in 36 Serie A appearances for Juventus last season.
The Italy international centre-back had a pass accuracy of 87% and a shot accuracy of 38%, and won 46 headers, 17 dribbles and 28 tackles.
During the 2015-16 campaign, Stones created six chances in 33 Premier League matches for Everton.
The 22-year-old England international centre-back had a pass accuracy of 89% and a shot accuracy of 14%, and won 51 headers, 23 dribbles and 36 tackles.
