The Wales midfielder, linked with Swansea and Celtic, was selected in Uefa's team of the tournament after helping his country to the semi-finals.
Joe Allen celebrates with Jordon Ibe after scoring for Liverpool
He started every one of his country's six tournament matches, assisting Aaron Ramsey's goal against Russia.
The former Swansea man has been linked with a move away from Anfield for the last year of his Liverpool career, with former club Swansea and Celtic closely linked by the likes of the South Wales Evening Post. Allen has slipped in and out of favour at the club, and with Jurgen Klopp taking over didn't have the easiest of times initially in trying to stake his claim for a starting spot.
However, in the second half of the season the Wales international found more regular playing time, and began impressing whenever he made it on to the pitch. He featured in nine of the club's last 10 league matches, though would have been disappointed to start the Europa League final on the bench.
The 26-year-old certainly carried his good form into the European Championships, proving himself an intrinsic part of his country's superb run to the semi-finals.
Some will find it hard to believe that Allen has been given a spot in the European Championship Team of the Tournament, but his excellent passing range and technical ability would certainly be a style that is appreciated in European football.
Below is a selection of reactions on Twitter from Liverpool fans after his inclusion in the all-star XI:
I'd like Joe Allen to stay as he adds to the squad, but he'll want to be starting every week & rightly so. ∴ should cash in after his Euros.— Reece (@BasslineKlopp) July 12, 2016
@KeksiOsheeks true, Markovic needs to go, we have like 6 cms tho, I think Joe Allen impressed enough during euros to stay— Jigalola (@Bolarinwa_) July 12, 2016
Would you swap Joe Allen for Luis Suarez? Basically Barca are getting a Xavi in the deal.. Sorted!! #LFC— Irish Reds (@LFCIrishFanzone) July 12, 2016
I understand that managers have a style of play and the type of player they want to play that style. But you can't sell Joe Allen— Rhys Richards (@RhysyRichards) July 12, 2016
If we can sell Jordan Ibe for 15m, surely we can get £37m for Joe Allen? Surely...— Skinny Bokisi (@Thuto_xBox_LFC) July 12, 2016
